Very nice Ray, but what about your decorating chores??…….Sod lt!

It looks like you are really enjoying the build?

I hope our club make the effort this year and get to the Warwick Show, if it's on, that is

I always called at the Thames Barge stand and talk to the Richard and his crew

Hi. Ray, coming on a pace now, ready for Hearne Bay in September? If we are allowed out by then.

        Regards.

          Hi Eddie,

            Hi All,

Some progress today with the main and fore hatch frameworks, ready for the deck now 😀

My lovely wife has mentioned decorating 😯 I knew it was to good to last !! Where is the paint 😈

            Regards Ray

I see that I'm deffinately not on par with my clamps collection. Will have to fix that before starting on the Colin Archer project. Your barge is looking great.

I note that will have to log off more often when not using the PC. Last week, about the same date, 5th May, my wife mentioned the 'D'-word …decorating! Not paint though –curtains. So the bad news now is that there's 21 meters of 'sailcloth' on order from Laura Ashley in Wales. 7m for the bedroom and 14 for the sittingroom. The good news is that it will take about 6-8 weeks to get here.

Going off line for a while and moving to the drydock and slipway to focus on yacht production.

            Cheers,

            George

              Hi All

The stern is in sight, all the deck panels of 1/16" ply have been cut to shape from card templates to get the joints right, the next functional part of the barge will be the rudder & steering servo.

                  Hi All,

Today is do a bit on the Portlight day, and I have discovered an amazing advantage of Liteply 😄

Once the shape for the rear bulwarks has been templated in card and the shape cut out of 2mm and glued in position, it is possible to trim to the final required shape with scissors 😎 with the grain vertical very easy ✔✔✔,

Do I see your very desirable Myford Peeping out?

                          Y ou won't believe this Ray……….In the 60's I built LBSC's 3 1/2" g Britannia on a 2 1/2" EW lathe!

Those were the days of inspiration and inventiveness!

                            Hi Bob,

Yes my Myford Super 7, which also doubles as another surface to put bits & pieces on 😄

Couldn't manage without it for fittings etc.

Sorting out the shed today ! I know how to have fun 😎,

                            Tim,

I'm concerned the barge maybe a bit heavy, I may have over engineered !!

                                Hi,

There is finally enough water in the lake in the park, but I have to wait again.

Yesterday I was preparing my model Caprice (Piscataqua river gundalow) for her first maiden voyage, but I have to wait. It's raining and the weather is damned cold, almost like March, not the end of May.

Nicer weather should appear hopefully next week. I'm quite curious how the model will behave on the water.

Pictured all my models – Caprice, tsb Gusty Cat and tsb Capricorn (all in scale 1:24)

                                    Hi Ray,
it looks like the worst is probably over- it's a great relief. Here we are alright.

So now I'm waiting for better weather again. If the weather forecasts are correct, then maybe next week should be fine.

We are also starting work on our garden. One of our acquaintances called it the "Fit Center".Well .. I imagine the fitness center really a little differently.

The model in the photo – on the back on the shelf is my quarterwheeler Lulonga.

                                        Hi,

The meteorological forecast said today that the sun will shine here for 3 hours after lunch. So I took the model with confidence, loaded it on the cart and drove to the park. The wind was very weak, so I had to help the engine several times. As usual, every first ride of my model ends in disaster. It ended with a jammed rudder and the RC equipment terminated service. Fortunately, it was by the shore, so I didn't have to go into the water.
On the other hand, the model sailed quite well even in such a weak wind.
Next time, maybe it will be better … Next photos in album here in MB

                                          Hi All,

Back on Portlight for a weekend break 😄 wooden building is my normal modus operandi, but a grp hull throws up strange challenges ! Fixing the 1/8" X 1 /8" obechi rubbing strip is one of those 😯 ended up with 5 minute epoxy to the bow, dampening the wood then clamped on then when dry superglue & 1 /32" brass rivets in pre- drilled holes.

what a carry on ! Back to the wooden construction for the next one ⛵⛵⛵

I have to agree with you there Ray

Glueing wood to plastic is traumatic…..Special glues etc

Building Tugboat Glasgow, was a prime example

5 minute epoxy is good for fixing prop shaft tubes in place where they pass through a hull, but for actually holding in place anything that can try to unhitch itself, real epoxy (traditional, slow setting) is better. Thats assuming proper surface preparation.

The rivets should make up for the basic weakness of the 5 minute epoxy and any ageing of the superglue should the obechi try to regain its original shape.

I can't see that a multi-modeller like you is going to have any real trouble.

Looking very good and that bluff bow that you were concerned about is now lending character.

This is my play area upstairs
